Your Rustic Furniture Guide
Rustic cabin style, modern farmhouse, country, shabby chic – whichever style you’re aiming for, rustic furniture can help you create that natural “outdoorsy” feel you want in your home.
What rustic furniture is:
Natural
We choose the best quality natural woods for our rustic furniture. For example, we import our Aspen from Colorado because we can’t get the same character of wood here in Pennsylvania. We also shy away from stains, with the exception of our Timber Frame collection and our Oak collection. Staining covers the natural beauty of the logs we use for our furniture.
Rugged
Bumps, knots, irregular edges – these are the hallmarks of true rustic furniture. And you can simply use it. Rustic furniture requires virtually zero maintenance.
Cozy
Rustic furniture helps you bring the warm, soothing feel of the outdoors into your home.
What rustic furniture is not:
Fussy
The primary duty of good rustic furniture is to be used, not admired (Although, you might get some compliments about rustic furniture from EZ Mountain!)
Trendy
The timelessness of rustic furniture supersedes any fads of the moment, allowing you to create a comfortable and classic look that you will enjoy for years.
Polished
It takes a lot of work to keep high-gloss furniture scratch-free and looking its best. Rustic furniture holds up well with little to no maintenance at all.
Key Elements of Rustic Furniture
Imperfections Are Perfectly Ok
No two pieces are the same. In our furniture, you’ll find varying grain patterns and naturally-occurring imperfections, such as knots and checks. A crack in a log isn’t a manufacturing defect, its a natural part of the drying process.
Rougher Finishes, Just Like in Nature
Rustic furniture is not perfectly smooth to the touch. There are no perfectly smooth surfaces in nature, after all. Saw marks, raised grain, and sometimes a bit of a wave are normal features of any of our rough sawn collections, but are especially prevalent in the Barnwood Collection. To remove these “imperfections” would be to take the character out of the wood.
Weathered Materials Give an Authentic Look
In addition to a raw finish, rustic wood is oftentimes lightly weathered to create a well-lived, worn look. Features such as distressed leathers and metals with a light patina can add a vintage feel.
